Length: 5000-18000mm

ASTM Corten B Introduction
Corten B steel sheet is a kind of  weather resistant steel, which is better suited for heavy and load bearing structures. Corten B sheet is produced from billet castings from blast furnace and hot rolled in a continuous mill for smaller thicknesses and on a four high mill for others. The purity of the steel of fine grade austenitic quality and the addition of special alloys, provide this steel plates, excellent mechanical characteristics, even at high temperatures and self-passivating properties when exposed to corrosive agents present in urban atmosphere. This property allows this steel to face down corrosion for longer periods when compared to common steel, even if not painted.

Hot Forming: Hot working may be done if necessary. Consult the steel supplier for information.
Flame Cutting: Normally it is carried out with the usual methods. In general, no preheat is required, but working on plates with a temperature of less than 10 °C shall be avoided.
Forming: This steel contains more alloying elements than plain carbon steel and thus is somewhat more difficult to form.
Drawing: In spite of its excellent mechanical properties, Corten B can be moderately drawn.
Welding: Corten B plates can be easily welded using common procedures used for mild steel plates (spot, TIG, MIG, MAG, electrode etc.). It is however advisable to avoid tempering in the heated zone and therefore to limit the ratio of linear energy to the thickness. Considering the chemical composition, it can be stated that Corten B steel is not suit to cold cracking. Welded structures fabricated with Corten B steel does not normally need thermal stress relief treatment.
Refercence Standards: Corten B steel plates comply to the following standards: NFA35-502-E36W, ASTM A242 and A588, EN10155-Fe510A1K1/DD2K1, S.E.W087.

ASTM Corten B Application
The mechanical characteristics and the resistance to atmospheric corrosion make this steel, the best product for the fabrication of agricultural vans and railway wagons, structures of bridges, water pipes, fans, chimneysand boilers.
The material forms its own protective layer when exposed to atmospheric elements. Essentially, the top layer corrodes and protects the steel beneath it. The natural finish does not normally require any form of maintenance such as painting, which makes the material a highly cost effective alternative to other structural steels.
Mainly used for construction of tanks, containers, bridges, frame structures, vehicles, etc with the request of welded, bolted, etc.

ASTM Corten B Service
These plates are in a variety of sizes and thicknesses, and is available as ex–stock or directly shipped from the mill. As with all our steels, our plates come with mill test certification, stampings and fully traceable. We can arrange for a variety of tests to be performed on the material if specified.
